St. Francis of Assisi Parish Ministries

St. Francis of Assisi has a variety of Ministries to serve the Parish. Share your Time and Talent by joining one of our Ministries.

Altar Servers : Alter Servers assist in the celebration of the Eucharist and have a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow with God. Boys who are in the 4 th grade and above are invited to join the Altar Servers. Training will be provided.

Children’s Ministry : The Children’s Ministry is a very busy Ministry and sponsors many activities in the parish. From September thru May, children who have not yet made their First Communion are invited to participate in Children’s Mass. During the Sunday 9:30AM Mass the children are dismissed to the Pastoral Center prior to the First Reading and return after the Creed to spend the remainder of the Mass with their families. The Children hear the readings read on their level, followed by a homily or activity suited to them. On a monthly basis the Birthday Club honors the children who have birthdays that month with Birthday Cake and refreshments after the 9:30AM Mass. Annually, the Children’s Ministry puts on the Christmas Nativity Program and the Parish Christmas Party. The annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Rectory lawn is great fun for all parishioners. The May Crowning gives children the opportunity to honor Mary during this annual event. Join this Ministry for the rewarding opportunity to assist in the activities of the Children’s Ministry.

Choir : The Choir enhances the Liturgy by leading the congregation in song at the 9:30AM Mass each Sunday and also on all special occasions such as Christmas and Easter. Rehearsals occur weekly. Share your musical talents by joining this Ministry.

Eucharistic Ministers : Eucharistic Ministers assist in the distribution of the Eucharist to the faithful at Mass. Special training and certification is provided by the Archdiocese for this Ministry.

Liturgy/Hospitality : The Liturgy/Hospitality Ministry consists of the Greeters and Ushers for Mass and is the epitome of our goal of being the end of your search for a friendly Church. In addition to Greeters and Ushers, the Hospitality side of this Ministry is called upon to organize special Parish activities such as the Ministry Fair and the reception following the Newcomer Masses. The Liturgy side coordinates the Office of Worship training for Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors. Both men and women are welcome to serve in this Ministry.

Grounds Committee : Lend your green thumb to the Parish and assist with the landscaping and upkeep of the many lovely gardens on the Parish grounds.

Lectors : Lectors serve to bring the Word of God to the Parish community during the sacrifice of Mass. Training is provided by the Archdiocese Office of Worship.

Ministry to the Poor : The Ministry to the Poor is a very gratifying Ministry and serves the needy within the limits of the Parish. This Ministry operates the Parish food pantry, conducts case assessments and provides support for the annual Christmas food baskets and gift drive. Volunteers are always needed for this Ministry.

Ministry to the Homebound : This special group of lay ministers brings Holy Communion to area shut-ins as well as residents of Covenant House and Lambeth House. Special training is provided for this ministry.

Office Support : The various mailings that you receive, the bulletin, envelopes, financial reports and other special letters, rely on a group of volunteers who have time during the day to assist our office staff. Your assistance in this area is greatly appreciated.

Outreach to Newcomers : The Outreach Group is responsible for reading and logging the real estate transactions which take place within our Parish. A letter of welcome is mailed to all new residents. If a new resident joins our Parish, they will receive a more personalized letter and a small gift. The new parishioner will also receive a home visit from a member of this ministry. All are welcome to join.

Right to Life : As Catholics, we all share a great respect for the sanctity of life, especially that of the unborn. This important ministry assists in keeping in front of us the teachings of the Church. The major activities of this group occur in January, the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, and the month of October as Pro-Life month. The group also organizes lecture series which help to address issues in all areas of the Right to Life movement. Each activity is designed to drawn our attention to this most sacred teaching of the Church. All parishioners are encouraged to participate in some way.

Seniors : This dynamic group is under the supervision of our own Sr. Myra and caters to Senior Citizens of our community. The group has its own Board of Directors. Just some of the exciting activities of this group include Bingo, art classes, listening ministries and trips and tours. Most exciting is the monthly Culture Club where Seniors get to participate in the rich history and cultural activities of another nation.

Single Adults : Single Adults is a new ministry that we are currently developing. The ministry will include social as well as social programs. We envision the age group of this ministry to be adults of the age of 21. Please consider dedicating your time and talents to this new ministry.

Young Couples : The Young Couples Ministry primarily serves as the sponsor for our annual Family Fun Day. This event is one of the most exciting in the Parish and includes food and beverages in a picnic like atmosphere as well as games for the kids. It is a great way to get out and meet your fellow parishioners. This ministry also works very closely with our Children’s Ministry. New members are always welcome.

Youth Ministry : This new ministry is currently being developed to serve the spiritual and social needs of our pre-teens and teens. Please consider joining this new ministry.
